Jason Hooper is nineteen years into his life as a potter, having learned his pottery craft in Austin after moving from England. He works at his home studio creating wheel thrown stoneware pottery that is functional and decorative. He uses strong lines in his forms, ornamented with gothic and deco details. More recently he has been using slip trailing to add surface texture for glazes to move over, and feel tactile in your hand. Rich glazes are layered on each piece to give interesting glaze flows and bring out the contours. His work is made with a white stoneware body, fired to cone 6 in oxidation, using studio-mixed glazes. All his functional work is food, dishwasher, and microwave safe, with care taken to give each piece a fine finish.
