I received my BFA in ceramics from Edinboro University of PA in 2013 and have been playing with mud ever since. Currently I’m working as an artist/instructor and new owner of a small community ceramics studio, Feats of Clay Pottery, in good ol’ Austin Texas. These large-scale figurative sculptures are meant to be displayed outside in some kind of sculpture garden. The sculptures are purposely left unglazed to be stained by nature and the elements. My hope is that some of the sculptures will become a home for moss and other critters, however applying dried moss and chia seeds is a great way to activate the growth. Yes, a life-size chia pet! That same connection to nature drives the theme of my pottery, which is aquatic and feminine based. After working in both wheel throwing and sculpting techniques, I have found a way to bring sculpture components to my wheel thrown work with texture and movement, by altering the thrown form.
