Born and raised in Humble, Texas, Christopher Melia moved to Corpus Christi in 2001 to extend his education at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi. He received his BFA in Ceramics in 2006 at TAMUCC and in 2011, his MFA from the University of North Texas. He currently lives in Whitesboro, Texas with his wife and three children, teaches at Little Elm High School, and makes work in his home studio. My work is about merging physical and mental comfort with functionality and aesthetic design. It is about making pieces that are appealing to both touch and to sight. Ever conscious of these goals, every aspect of my pottery – design, creation, glazing, firing – is about cultivating an ultimate sense of comfort within each piece so that the end user can appreciate and connect with it.
