We reside in Buda, Texas where they have been making pottery collaboratively in their home studio. Ashley hand builds or throws the pots and applies flashing slips, then Caleb, a tattoo artist by trade, hand paints glaze designs on the pots. They then wood or soda fire the pots at the Eye of the Dog. Ashley studied Art Education with an emphasis on Ceramics at St. Edward’s University under Stan Irvin. She loves using hand made templates for her slab constructions. Form, function, and fire are all elements that inform her work. Caleb takes inspiration from nature and esoteric imagery. The way the fire, ash, and soda kiss the pots and obscures some of the imagery makes the work feel as though it’s a relic from another time.
