Morgan has been working with whimsical drawing on clay for over 20 years. Using a base of cone 5/6 clay, she throws and slabs simple forms as canvas for decorative wares that are meant for daily use. The forms are meant to be both utilitarian and soft. Drawing inspiration from nature and fantasy, the surface drawing is a combination of custom underglaze screen print transfers and hand- painted transfer work, which she then colors in with thinned underglazes, all applied at the bisqueware stage. Morgan has a BA in Art with concentrations in Ceramics and Drawing from Earlham College. She works out of a home studio in Elgin, where she lives with two dogs and 95-year-old gran, who enjoys making paper clay sculptures.
