While in graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin in 1974, Stan started a ceramics program for Laguna Gloria Art Museum. After graduate school, he set up the program at St. Edward’s University in Austin. He taught primarily ceramics and sculpture there for 38 years, receiving Professor Emeritus upon his retirement. Stan currently maintains a full time studio in Rockport, Texas where he specializes in altered wheel-thrown forms and more recently printing on clay. Stan’s work can be seen in Austin at Clayways Gallery, WindWay Gallery in Rockport, Texas, at the Texas Clay Festival, and at his annual Open Studio Sale in early December. In addition to shows, Stan teaches a variety of clay workshops. Past awards include Best of Show at the Greater Austin Clay Arts Association and first place in the Texas Teapot Tournament.  His work has been included in numerous state and national juried competitions. The most recent was the 2024 San Angelo North American Clay Competition. When not in his studio, Stan enjoys sailing on the Texas coast.
