I often don’t know why I make a particular piece. I simply begin, trusting that through the process something meaningful will emerge. My work is a search for feeling, an attempt to better understand myself and my emotional landscape. Working entirely by hand, I create ceramic flowers, some that stand alone and others that come together in arrangements held in ceramic vessels that I also make. A single flower has its own quiet beauty, yet when many flowers come together, they create a conversation that is greater than the sum of its parts. As I work, I use a process of discovery, building forms intuitively rather than following a predetermined outcome. The most rewarding moments come when I can remain in a mindset of play, curiosity, and exploration. Each piece becomes an opportunity to uncover something new, both in the work itself and within myself. I often ask myself how something as simple as a seed can become a flower in so many extraordinary forms. I don’t know the answer. I am simply grateful that it does. That sense of wonder continues to inspire my work and reminds me that beauty often begins with the smallest of beginnings. Making is my way of listening, questioning, and finding meaning through the act of creation.
