By Virtú Ceramics are works of Frank Zhu. I have been making objects with clay in Austin, Texas for about 10 years. I teach private lessons at a community teaching studio called East Side Pot Shop in east Austin. I am finding myself making two bodies of work with a focus on different techniques. I throw larger forms on the wheel that are more classic and follow geometrical proportions that I learned from Eastern Asian pots. The history is so rich in Eastern Asia, I don’t think I will ever look away from these pots. I also do a lot of hand building or wheel thrown and altered forms. I like pots in good homes, somewhere in the home that bring some balance and joy to the owner, at the end, I am just communicating some of the qualities and virtues that inspired me. So anyone that share these views, the pots are for them.
