Layne Ober has pursued a mastery of ceramic art for over 40 years. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Houston specializing in ceramics, she has explored the many facets of ceramic arts. Having started in functional work – wheel thrown bowls, mugs and plates- she has also incorporated handbuilding and sculpture techniques through the years. All tableware is high fired stoneware. She also uses an alternative firing method using wood and a 55 gallon barrel. This method uses organic materials to infuse many natural elements on the surfaces allowing for a unique and variable finish. She lives in a small pecan orchard in Guadalupe county which provides a lot of inspiration for her work.
