Michelle Ellis was born and raised in rural central Texas and now works from her home studio near Houston. She earned her BFA in Studio Art with a focus on Ceramic Art from Texas State University, and her work has been shown in exhibitions across the country. Michelle creates both functional pottery and sculptural ceramics inspired by the Texas landscape, its people, and the traces they leave behind. Her sculptural pieces explore the push and pull between wild and tamed, real and surreal, often incorporating found objects — Galveston seashells, lace impressions, seeds, and more — into the clay’s surface. Her functional wares favor a neutral, minimal palette designed to let everyday rituals, like morning coffee or garden berries, take center stage.
