Liz Mazurek intimately links viewer to object through a humanly familiar textural and visual experience. She creates abstracted porcelain tableware and sculpture that emulate the plush, undulating exterior of the human body. Mazurek uses the potter’s wheel to create most of her forms, utilizing thrown and altered techniques to create animate forms. A supple, matte glaze is utilized to mimic the soft surface of skin, fired in gas reduction cone 10. She received her B.F.A. in ceramics at Southwestern University, completing her first two-person exhibition in the spring of 2018. After college, she moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to complete a year- long postbaccalaureate program at Colorado State University and taught at a local studio. She opened her own practice in California and has since moved back to Texas to continue working independently. She exhibits her work in shows yearly throughout the US and internationally and is represented by galleries in Oregon, Tennessee, and New York. She currently works from her home studio in Dallas, Texas and takes every opportunity to fire atmospheric kilns with fellow ceramicists around the country.
