Working primarily in low-fire earthenware, Bayless creates a range of utilitarian and sculptural ceramic works that use elements of light, negative space, and symbolism to focus on an atmosphere that will create unique spaces for ritual and connection. Her work invites you to bask in the glow of the altarcito and savor a moment. Through the tweezer ofrendas and lipstick altars you are offered a candle to make a prayer to self-care. Her stacking planters, designed for proper drainage, are rhythmically embellished with repeating pinched handles and a warm palette that offer a space to plant, hold, reflect, and create. Since completing her MFA in Ceramics at the University of Colorado Boulder, Bayless has completed a public artwork funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, had her work exhibited nationally in museums and galleries, and has been an exhibiting artist at multiple NCECA conferences. She is currently based in Laredo, TX where she has a studio and is an Assistant Professor of Art at Texas A&M International University.
