Cecy Holcomb is the artist and owner of Holcombville Pottery located in San Marcos, Texas. She earned her BFA in Studio Art, with a specialization in Ceramics, from Texas State University. Since she graduated, Cecy has been working as a full-time potter. Cecy is originally from El Paso, Texas. Her cultural heritage and background have inspired most of her work. The Aguas Frescas and Folklorico series are a direct reflection of the inspirations. Her most recent series is the Wild Rice Series. She carves the pottery to reflect the Texas Wild Rice found in the San Marcos River. Cecy has added slip trailing to the carvings to represent the springs rising from the bottom of the river floor to the top of the river. The Springs spell S.O.S. in Braille. Visit her website to learn more about her series. Cecy’s work is primarily wheel-thrown, altered, carved, slip-decorated, and fired in an oxidation atmosphere. She uses both porcelain and stoneware clay bodies with colorful glazes. Cecy enjoys creating traditional and organic forms and is humbled knowing that her pottery is used daily and for special occasions.
