I am a born and raised Texan from Houston, and I have been working with clay for a little over a decade. I took my first ceramics class at the University of Houston, and immediately fell in love. After graduating there with a Bachelor of Arts, I then went on the receive my Master of Fine Arts in ceramic sculpture from Houston Christian University. Since then, I have taught ceramic sculpture and pottery to all ages, and I currently teach at Third Coast Clay and Houston Christian University. I enjoy creating both functional and sculptural work, and I like to overlap the two as often as I can. In my current work, I try to combine the otherworldliness of natural geological formations with my deep love of fantasy and mythology. Carving and creating detailed textures on my work is a way for me to escape into another realm, and I often find myself imagining my work in the settings of some of my favorite fantastical stories. Life can get bogged down, and creating my work helps me bring magic into my day-to-day life. I hope that when others view my work, it reminds them that we can all use little whimsy in our own stories.
