After a long career in the healing arts mending bodies and spirits, I found a new therapeutic expression in clay and handbuilding has been my joy for the past decade. Each piece is individually designed and handcrafted from dark, rich clay and meticulously painted by hand. I begin by rolling out large 1/4″ slabs, cut out walls for structures and construct the forms. While still green, I apply vibrant colors with underglazes, bisque fire, then apply final glazing by hand which will fire to a glassy shine, contrasting with the matte underglazes. My work is both sculptural and functional, bringing playfulness to every day objects in the home and garden. I am inspired by the bold geometries of the 1980’s Memphis style design and the rich fiesta-like tapestries of Mexican folk art. Both whimsical and bold, each piece is waiting to spark a smile. They are in essence an extension of my lifelong desire to bring a little more light and healing into the world.
