Courtney Segrest Hunt (she/her) is a ceramic artist living in Denton, Texas. She earned her MFA in Ceramics from the University of North Texas, after relocating from Oklahoma, where she completed her BFA at the University of Oklahoma with a focus in ceramics and sculpture. Through function and design, Courtney’s ceramics engage the senses by incorporating sound and tactile exploration. Drinking vessels with interactive elements, such as moveable chains, are among the most common pieces she creates. Her process includes throwing forms with bubbles and swells that are pleasant to hold, then using a handheld extruder or handbuilding techniques to add playful objects within and on the pottery form. Her color palette is inspired by the feeling of having a cold drink on a hot summer’s day, often using soft pastels that subtly shift from one hue to another to evoke a sense of refreshment and levity.
