The first 45 years of my clay work was primarily functional porcelain fired in a gas kiln. My wife Cary and I recently moved from Austin to San Antonio, and my kiln didn’t make the move. I now work with white earthenware fired in an electric kiln at a much lower temperature. Although initially leery of the changes, I find that I am excited by the new work and don’t miss the big ‘ol kiln at all.
