Jamie & Jess Wade (Exponential Art) are central Texas based Artists & Curators, with studios at the Canopy in Austin & at the Eye of the Dog Art Center in San Marcos. Jamie Wade makes abstract, nautical, and figurative sculptures that emphasize beauty in the unfamiliar. Believing that we are all strange and interesting creatures ourselves, Jamie has created a world where (like us) everybody is uniquely important. Loving the ‘planned chaos’ of atmospheric firings, most of her pieces are either soda- or wood-fired, thus double-ensuring that each piece is a one-of-a-kind individual. Jamie earned her BFA in Ceramics from the Kansas City Art Institute. She has work published in multiple Lark Books, E.A.S.T. Catalogs, and has work in a number of public and private collections. Jess Wade creates figurative sculptures of expressive characters and fragmented narratives that speak to the beauty, horror, folly, and wonder that is human existence. This work reflects a personal dialog about how we are collectively and individually participating in the world we create. Jess likes to mix textural designs and decoration with intense colors to evoke emotions, memory, time and other ephemeral notions.
