Wheel, coils, slabs—don’t make me choose! My wheel-thrown pieces begin with a controlled idea of form and are finished with asymmetric design elements to soften and enhance the pottery. Coil-built and slab vessels begin with a looser idea of form that are given definition and precision as they are finished. Layering glazes and stains completes the work. I am especially interested in subtle nuances of shape and color that continually reveal something new. I no longer work as fast or as much as I used to and wheel-thrown pieces are no longer the majority. There is now a greater freedom in my work and I hope the pots are more interesting.
